We discovered this beautiful spot last year after a trip to Western North Carolina to look for a vacation rental property. Honestly, there are so many beautiful towns in this area of world, that it was hard to choose.

Where Is Rumbling Bald Located?
Lake Lure Rumbling Bald Resort is situated on the northern shore of Lake Lure in western North Carolina. Our prime location offers easy access to Asheville (and the Biltmore Estate), Charlotte, and Greenville-Spartanburg (South Carolina).
Other nearby towns we love include Black Mountain and Hendersonville. While we were devastated to see the destruction of beautiful Chimney Rock, we are inspired by the community’s resilience as they recover and rebuild.
As we write this, a temporary entrance to Chimney Rock State Park is being built, with hopes of completion around Memorial Day 2025! Check back with us regularly to see when it reopens!

When to Visit Lake Lure
With a moderate climate, Rumbling Bald Resort on Lake Lure is a great place to visit all year!
With the stunning fall foliage in the Blue Ridge Mountains and Western North Carolina, fall, specifically October, is the busiest month. Book now to secure your spot!
Summer is quite busy, too, especially as the moderate elevation (990-3020 feet) keeps temperatures cooler than those in lower-lying areas of the Carolinas and nearby states like Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia.
As for winter, although things slow down and temperatures cool off, we love the peacefulness of visiting Casa Quail Ridge at Rumbling Bald this time of year. We have excellent off-season pricing, too!
Spring is quite spectacular as trees begin to green up and the dazzling colors of Rhododendrons appear. We love visiting the tulip garden at the Biltmore Estate this time of year!
Rumbling Bald Resort Activities
When you stay with us at Casa Quail Ridge, you also get 12 passes to enjoy all the great Rumbling Bald Resort activities!
- Tennis and Pickleball. If you love racquet sports like we do, you’ll be excited to know that Rumbling Bald has four combination tennis and pickleball courts. We have a couple of racquets and four pickleball paddles at Casa Quail Ridge for your use.
- Lake Lure Private Beach. Guests at Rumbling Bald can enjoy the private beach at Lake Lure, rent kayaks, paddle boards, and pontoon boats, or take a relaxing cruise on the lake. **The lake and parts of the beach are closed while debris and silt removal continue. We are hopeful the lake will be open fall of 2025. Please reach out with any questions, and in the meantime, you can enjoy all the other fabulous Rumbling Bald amenities!
- Restaurants. Don’t feel like cooking or driving outside of Rumbling Bald? There are three restaurants for your dining pleasure! Legends on The Lake has beautiful views of Lake Lure and an extensive food/cocktail menu. The Gardens is open for breakfast and lunch. The Bear’s Cup Cafe Bar is open for coffee, beer, and light snacks during the day.
- Swimming. Rumbling Bald has two swimming pools: a year-round indoor pool with a jacuzzi and a seasonal outdoor pool with a lazy river.
- Fitness Center. Looking to keep up your fitness routine on vacation? When you stay with us, you have complimentary access to the fitness center with cardio equipment and weights. Guests can also access classes for a small fee.
- Mini Golf. Guest are welcome to play mini golf for a small fee.
- Spa and Salon. Find your zen with a massage or facial at the Rumbling Bald Day Spa. Hair care, waxing, and nail treatments are also available too.
- Hiking Trails. We find our zen simply walking around the gorgeous forested community of Rumbling Bald. In addition, there are lots of great hiking spots nearby and around the Asheville area.
- **Lake Lure Private Beach. Guests at Rumbling Bald can enjoy the private beach at Lake Lure, rent kayaks, paddle boards, and pontoon boats, or take a relaxing cruise on the lake.
Golfing at Rumbling Bald
Golfers rejoice! Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure has not one but two beautiful and challenging 18-hole golf courses.
- Bald Mountain Golf Course. This 72-par course, designed by W.B. Lewis, is open year-round (weather permitting) and has a claim-to-fame, as the 16th hole was the backdrop in Dirty Dancing!
- Apple Valley Golf Course. Designed by Dan Maples and named one of the most beautiful mountain courses to play by Golf Digest, this 72-par course is open most of the year except January and February.
